I hope you and your children have gotten to enjoy the snow over the past week! At my house, we have been shoveling, sledding and feeding the birds!
We have been taking a look at blends in words (sn, sp, st). When we can chunk letters together, it is easier for us to blend words when we are reading. We are also talking about long vowel sounds. First we are listening for the long or short vowel sounds, then we will look at how to spell the long vowel sounds.
We are continuing to practice our popcorn words. It is important that students are able to read these words quickly in order to read books. By writing each word on two index cards, you can play games like Go Fish or Memory.
We are beginning to look at addition and subtraction. We have been talking about one more and one less or one fewer. The students are becoming fluent in adding one more. We are continuing to practice one less to develop the same fluency.
I hope to see you at Math Night on February 12 at 6:00. There will be free pizza in the cafeteria, and then games in the gym from 6:30-7:30.
