Farm

It was another exciting week in kindergarten!  This week I administered the DIBELS assessment.  There were two subtests.  The first one is Initial Sound Fluency.  I say a word and the student says the first sound in the word.  For example, moon starts with mmmm.  The second test is Letter Naming Fluency.  The student is given a page of letters to name.  Both tests are timed for one minute. I use the data to help determine what children need practice with.

We finished up our study of apples.  We learned about types of apples, the life cycle of an apple and the parts of an apple.  Now we are looking at farms.  We talked about what we already know about farms.  We will read both nonfiction and fiction books about farms.  We will do some writing about farms too.

Progress Reports are in the folders.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

In Math we continue to work on writing, recognizing and counting numbers to 10.  We are also sorting groups of objects or pictures.  We are always talking about how we know our answer is correct and any connections we find in numbers or sorts.  We continue to work in our math journals daily as well.

We have "shopped" for books for our own book bins.  Currently the book bins contain books that the children are familiar with, poems and finger plays that we have practiced, Let's Find Out magazines, and a reading journal with our anchor charts.  We have used post it notes to mark books, and we will be using this strategy more in October.

Some of the stories we read this week are:
