Happy Valentine's Day!

We have been doing author studies.  We have learned about Mo Willems and, now we are learning about Dr. Seuss.  We are noticing the characteristics of the authors' books and trying to add those details in their own writing.

In Math, we finished learning about addition and subtraction.  We will continue to practice fluency.  We are beginning to count to 20, recognize and write the numbers.

We had a transportation unit and sorted the vehicles into categories like air, land, and sea.  We are learning about the job of a president this week.

We are continuing to practice reading and writing real cvc words.  Now we are adding in nonsense words.  Nonsense word practice helps us apply what we know about letter sounds to read new words.

Here are some of the books we have read:

Nonfiction Celebration!

Wednesday, February 7, 2018 is our 100th day of school!  Miss Jackson is planning fun activities for celebrating this kindergarten milestone!

The class list went home last week.  We will be sharing Valentines on February 14, 2018.  We will also have an ice cream party at 2:15.  I will supply the ice cream and bowls.  I am asking you to send in a favorite topping.

Progress Reports go home on Friday, February 9, 2018.  I am excited to share your child's progress and goals for their learning.

We are practicing addition and subtraction problems.  We have to pay attention and decide if we are taking away or adding to solve the problem or equation.

We have finished our Diving into Nonfiction unit in Readers Workshop.  The students used what they know about reading nonfiction books to read a book and make a poster to share what they learned.  We also wrote our own nonfiction books about our learning from Polar Bears. Next week we will do an author study on Jan Brett.

I am now off to watch the Patriots!  Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
