Applesauce

The highlight of this week was making applesauce.  We worked together to create this chart to share with you.

In our Word Study we added the letters m and n to our list of letters.  I assessed rhyming and initial sounds this week.  We will play some rhyming games next week to practice this skill.  If you are making a trip to the library, you might consider borrowing some rhyming books.  It is one of the best ways for kindergarteners to begin to hear rhyming sounds.

We finished our first topic in math.  We worked on counting groups of 0 to 5 objects in different arrangements.  The students practiced showing numbers in other ways by using counters and drawing.  We also practiced recording counts by writing numerals.  We will continue to practice  number writing.  Finally, we used a Math Practice-Constructing Arguments.  In math, it is not enough to say the answer, but you must be able to explain how you got your answer.

In Readers Workshop we learned about Informational Texts and Storybooks.  We learned that Informational Books are real books that teach you something.  We have been practicing reading each page and thinking about the pages as we read.

You may have heard some songs that we have been singing so far.  Here are some videos that we have been singing and learning with.
