In math, we have been comparing numbers. We used objects and number lines to talk about how we can prove one number is greater than or less than another number. We have also been working on taking surveys and analyzing the results.
In Readers Workshop, we have been studying patterns in books. We have looked at alphabet books and counting books, growing and shrinking patterns, question and answer patterns, and repeating patterns. We are learning to use the pattern to make predictions. We can predict what words we might see and what might happen next.
In Writing, we have been working on writing our first and last name with proper case using the lines on the paper to help us form the letters. We are also writing a complete sentence to go with the picture. The students are continuing to spell by using the sounds they hear in a word. You are probably noticing that at the beginning of the year, your child could maybe hear the first sound in a word and now they can hear the end sound and maybe even the middle sound!
