Holidays Around the World

Thank you for coming in to conferences!  It was great to be able to talk about all the skills your child has!  Remember that report cards will go home on Tuesday.  On December 22, we will be decorating gingerbread houses.  As we get closer, I will be looking for donations of graham crackers, frosting, and candies.

This week in Readers Workshop we have been studying patterns in books.  We have talked about how sometimes the pattern is at the beginning of the sentence like "I see a . . ." or at the end of the sentence like "... can run." or in the middle of a sentence like "The . . . is red."  Lots of times books with patterns have a surprise ending.  Finding patterns in books help us to figure out words and sound smooth when we are reading.  Kindergarteners are doing a great job of finding patterns in the books in their book bins.
