I hope you enjoyed a long weekend with your kindergartener. It was great fun getting to see the future kindergarteners.
In Reader's Workshop we have been making connections between characters. Making connections helps us to understand and remember what we read. We made connections between how two characters feel, how they look, and experiences or adventures they had.
In Math we are continuing to understand teen numbers. We need to be able to see the number 12 and know that it is a group of ten and two ones. Or if we have 5 and add 10 more, know that we have 15 without counting. We have also been working with tally marks and ten frames.
We did a science experiment to test the theory that seeds need water to grow. We made germination bags and had a dry seed and a wet seed. Everyone's wet seed sprouted. Nobody's dry seed sprouted.
Don't forget the book fair in the library this week!
Friday, May 23 progress reports will go home. Next Monday there will be no school in celebration of Memorial Day.
Mark your calendars-our annual Kindergarten Celebration will be Wednesday, June 18 from 6-7. We are asking that kindergarteners arrive to the classroom at 5:45.
The last day of school will be Friday, June 20.

Week of May 9
Please remember that next Friday (May 16), there is no school because of Kindergarten Orientation. Also, Thursday (May 15) is Early Release Day. The school book fair is coming up soon too. Miss Barlow will be sending home a notice next week.
We have been working on making connections to characters. We used the words, "I felt like that before,""I have done that before," and "That happened to me." The kindergarteners have been making connections throughout the day. Connections help us understand what we learn and remember it.
In math we are reviewing teen numbers. We are practicing the concept that a teen number is made up of one group of ten and some extra ones. We practice by building the number, writing the number, counting ten frames, counting tally marks, and of course singing songs.
We are also learning about seeds this week. We made germination bags for the window. We added one wet seed and one dry seed. We are observing them to see what happens-just like scientists.
Thank you for all the wonderful goodies for Teacher Appreciation Week!
