Week Ending May 16

I hope you enjoyed a long weekend with your kindergartener.  It was great fun getting to see the future kindergarteners.

In Reader's Workshop we have been making connections between characters.  Making connections helps us to understand and remember what we read.  We made connections between how two characters feel, how they look, and experiences or adventures they had.

In Math we are continuing to understand teen numbers.  We need to be able to see the number 12 and know that it is a group of ten and two ones.  Or if we have 5 and add 10 more, know that we have 15 without counting.  We have also been working with tally marks and ten frames.

We did a science experiment to test the theory that seeds need water to grow.  We made germination bags and had a dry seed and a wet seed.  Everyone's wet seed sprouted.  Nobody's dry seed sprouted.

Don't forget the book fair in the library this week!

Friday, May 23 progress reports will go home.  Next Monday there will be no school in celebration of Memorial Day.

Mark your calendars-our annual Kindergarten Celebration will be Wednesday, June 18 from 6-7.  We are asking that kindergarteners arrive to the classroom at 5:45.

The last day of school will be Friday, June 20.
