In Reader's Workshop, we have been learning about the power of partnerships. We can help our friend learn and our friend can help us. We learned about reading EEKK style (ask your child to show you). We learned that we can read the same book together at the same time, we can take turns with the same book, and we can take turns reading different books. Currently, we are reading independently for 12 minutes and with our reading buddy for an additional 5 minutes.
In Math, we finished our counting books. We have been talking about how we can represent numbers in different ways: numerals, number words, ten frames, and with a drawing. We also have been working on recognizing sets without counting the dots. Finally, today we added one more to a set using Skittles. For example, I said, "Put 3 Skittles in your cup. Add one more. Now how many do you have?" We are working on being able to say, "4," without counting them. We also tried taking one away by eating them!
We had our first PIE assembly this week. The awards were given for Positive Attitude, Improvement, and Effort. The winners worked extra hard during September to be recognized in front of the school.
