Welcome to kindergarten!
I am so excited to be getting to know your child and their personalities. Thursday night was Open House, and I appreciate all who were able to attend. I am going to use this first post to review the material we went over. Please let me know if you have any questions.Folders: Please use the yellow folder to send notes and money to school. Make sure they are labeled with your child's first and last name. Money should always be in an envelope or a baggie with I will send home work, notices, and notes in the folder.
Homework: Kindergarten doesn't assign homework. However, the math program we use comes with homework, and I will send it home. If your child returns it, I will let them choose from the prize box. There is also a monthly reading log. All students benefit from being read to and reading to their families. I would highly recommend you make this part of your nighttime routine. At the end of the month, students who return their reading log can choose from the prize box. When your child is absent, I will stick some of the work in the cubby. It is not required to be returned, but I think you will find it helpful to see some of the work that was missed. Much of work is not paper and pencil, so I try to send home what I can.
Behavior Chart: We have begun using the behavior chart at school. Beginning on Monday, the students will be coloring in a calendar to let you know how the day went. If a child is on red, we will sit down and write an email to let you know the choices that were made. Green and above mean your child had a great day. As students are learning the expectations, don't be too alarmed if you see an occasional red.
Fresh Fruits and Vegetables: Our school has a grant that allows us to all get a fresh fruit or vegetable at snack. It allows us to try many new things and enjoy our favorites too. Ask your child about the fresh fruit or vegetable each day.
