Welcome Back!

We had a great week getting back in to our routine after a long time off.

We started subtraction this week!  We have learned that subtraction means taking apart or taking from.  We can use the minus sign to write a subtraction equation.  You can practice this skill at home with food!  While eating dinner you can say, "You have 4 chicken tenders on your plate, if you eat two, how many are left?"  Then you can say it as a subtraction equation.

We started tapping out the sounds in cvc words.  Ask your child to show you how.  Some words you can practice with are mat, map, sad, sat, fit, fig, fog.  We are doing much better at tapping the sounds than blending them to read the word, so we will keep practicing.

We worked on an anchor chart called Letters Help Me Read.  We talked about how these strategies will help us read and figure out words.

We started learning about penguins by reading some nonfiction books.  We also made some snowman crafts to decorate our room for the winter.
