We read the story Duck! Rabbit! and decided for ourselves if the picture was a duck or a rabbit. We are "hatching" a mystery egg. We each got a Mystery Egg journal and made a prediction about what was inside. We put the egg in water and now we are watching it closely to see what hatches.
In Readers Workshop, we finished up our Nonfiction Unit. We are now experts at deciding whether a book is fiction or nonfiction. We can decide what the author wants us to learn about. In celebration, we read a recipe for Alligator Pie and made it.
In Math, we continue to decompose teen numbers into groups of ten and some more. We know that Teen Numbers Start With A One and Teen Numbers Have A Group of Ten from songs that we sing.
Next week we are celebrating reading with Read Across America. On Monday, we will see a performance of Alice in Wonderland. It is dress like a twin day. On Tuesday, we will dress like royalty. On Wednesday, we will have celebrity readers and dress wild and crazy like the Mad Hatter. On Thursday, we will have a pajama tea party. On Friday, we will dress like our favorite Alice in Wonderland character. Also, students can decorate a potato to look like a character from Alice in Wonderland.
